Virginia Commonwealth University will celebrate the diversity and culture of its students and the surrounding community during the 2008 VCU Intercultural Festival.

The parade on Sat., Apr. 12, will start at 2 p.m. at the corner of Floyd and Harrison (1015 Floyd Ave.) and will hit Harrison, Grace, Laurel, and Main Sts. The parade will turn right onto all streets, ending back at 1015 Floyd Ave. The parade will have student organizations, floats, music, dancing, and horses.
The ICF Charity Concert is on April 12. The band, Culture-Sol, a hip-hop/rap cover band, will be playing at 8 pm in the Commonwealth Ballrooms, at the Student Commons. At 10 pm DJ Long Jawns will take over for a dance party. Tickets are $5 and a portion of the proceeds go to the charity Invisible Children. Tickets will be pre-sold and sold at the door.
The VCU Intercultural Festival takes place on Sun., Apr. 13, from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., at the Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. The VCU Intercultural Festival (ICF) is a completely student organized event dedicated to celebrating the diversity of VCU and the Richmond community. All activities for this day are free and open to the public.

The primary mission of ICF is to educate people about cultures different from their own in order to promote greater personal understanding across ethnic and racial lines. ICF includes unique performances, authentic food, merchant vendors, games, a fashion show, children’s activities, carnival rides, an art exhibition, cultural displays, door prizes and much more.

An official university tradition, the festival has become a university and community-wide event that has grown exponentially, increasing from an audience of 500 people in 2002 to 4500 in 2006. It is a celebration of cultural diversity, connecting over 80 diverse VCU student organizations, community organizations, and people from all over the country.

For the past six years, participation in ICF has grown so that now more than ever, the Festival is accomplishing its mission of promoting “Unity in Diversity” not only at VCU, but throughout Richmond and the State.

ICF offers an assortment of entertaining activities to the public for people of all ages and from all walks of life. The festival, parade and concert are rain or shine.
