The Virginia Commonwealth University Department of Fashion Design and Merchandising hosts its Annual Juried Fashion Show on May 2, featuring approximately 130 original garments designed by fashion design students.

The show, which is titled “Digital Threads,” will be held at 7 p.m. in Ballrooms A & B in the VCU Student Commons, 907 Floyd Ave. Preferred seating tickets are $35, general admissions tickets are $25, student tickets are $20 and fashion student tickets are $5. Tickets can be purchased through the Department of Fashion Design and Merchandising, Room 432 of the Pollak Building, 325 N. Harrison St., or by calling 804-828-1699.

The student designs were selected for the show by a jury of fashion professionals. “Digital Threads” will feature 11 segments of student-designed garments, ranging from evening wear to denim to pieces inspired by the Philippines. The show will also feature swimsuits designed by students at the VCU School of the Arts in Qatar and children’s loungewear designed for pediatric cancer patients.

“Everyone looks forward to this show,” said Karen Videtic, chairwoman of the fashion department. “These designs are one-of-a-kind couture and only the best garments get in the show.”

Cotton Incorporated is a major sponsor of the show, underwriting the cost of production, design student scholarships, student ticket costs and field trips for students to New York City and Cary, N.C., the location of the company’s Cotton Library, Trend Forecasting and Textile Research centers.
