The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that due to the possibility a VCU student who died Tuesday had meningitis, the university is taking immediate steps — beginning today — to protect its students and faculty.
In a letter today to members of the Virginia Commonwealth University community, university President Eugene P. Trani said a 19-year-old VCU music major died Tuesday and may have had meningitis. The university is making antibiotics available to students and faculty.
In the letter, Trani said Richmond, state and VCU health officials investigating the student’s death do not believe she had bacterial meningitis — an easily spread form of the disease — but they have not ruled it out.
