VCU Commencement this weekend
You’ll want to avoid The Coliseum area on Saturday unless you or a family member are in a cap and gown.
This Saturday, May 10th, at 10:00 AM, VCU will hold its spring commencement at the Richmond Coliseum. The Coliseum is sandwiched between Broad and Leigh streets, and from 5th to 7th streets. VCU enrolls more than 32,000 students, so it’s likely that the downtown area near the Coliseum might be a place to avoid because of the increased traffic.
If you’re a student and don’t know where you’re suppose to be or when, perhaps this PDF will help. If your parents are confused by the cryptic text message about the ceremony that you sent at 2:00 AM, they’re welcome to contact the Graduation Office at (804) 828-1917 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Monday through Friday.
Expect restaurants to be booked as families will be eager to take their new graduates out for a celebratory dinner and this is Mother’s Day weekend so places will be packed. The official commencement will end around noon Saturday, but there are also smaller department ceremonies scattered throughout the day at various locations, including the Siegel Center and Center Stage, that will last until about 9:00 PM.
