Linas Kojelis, Chairman of the Petersburg Republican Committee (PRC) announced today that almost 80 guests have registered for the third annual Lincoln-Douglass-Mahone Dinner and Silent Auction, on April 4th, at 6 p.m. at Old Town Catering (9 W. Old St).  The guest of honor will be Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell, the presumptive GOP nominee for the 2009 Virginia governor’s race.

“With several days to go, we have three times more RSVP’s than last year,” stated Mr. Kojelis.  “It’s clear that Petersburg and Tri-Cities Republicans are all united behind our great Attorney General.”
In addition to remarks by the Attorney General, the program will feature a tribute to the Rev. Martin Luther King and a National Anthem duet sung by PRC Member Lauren Barboza and Senator Steve Martin (VA-11th).  Other distinguished guests will include former Senator Eva Scott (first woman elected to Virginia Senate), Delegate Riley Ingram (VA-62nd), Delegate Jeff Frederick (VA-52nd and candidate for chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia), Dinwiddie Commonwealth’s Attorney Lisa Caruso,  RPV 4th District Chairman Jason Gray and Prince George GOP Chairman Dan Robinson.

Miss Barboza announced that various special items will be available for the silent auction, including a lithograph by U.S. Senator John Warner, a print of the U.S. Capitol signed by Congressman Randy Forbes (R-4th), framed posters from the Ronald Reagan Library and a pewter Jefferson cup from Lt. Governor Bill Bolling, as well as original works by local artists and dinners at Petersburg and Tri-Cities restaurants.

The evening’s entertainment will feature Sounds of the Triangle – a selection of music and songs from the great entertainers including Sam Cooke, Chubby Checker and Jerry Butler who performed in Petersburg at the Halifax Triangle’s historic Rialto Theater in its heyday.

The menu draws upon Petersburg’s rich culinary and historic heritage.  During the silent auction, guest will have a choice of Jeff Davis Punch (served at Starvation Balls during the 1864-1865 Siege of Petersburg) or Ronald Reagan Punch (commemorating the return of alcoholic beverages to the White House after President Carter’s Administration) and a choice of Old Town or Walnut Hill Salad.   Desert will feature the popular period Granted It’s Good Rice Pudding, a variation of authentic Civil War-era Republican Pudding favored by General U.S. Grant (with a splash of rum).
