The Times-Dispatch reported today that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will give $8.1 million to libraries in 11 states, including Virginia. The Ginter Park and North Avenue branches of Richmond Public Libraries were listed as being eligible to apply for the grants:

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced today that they’re giving $8.1 million in grants to public libraries in Virginia and 10 other states.

The money will be used to improve free access to computers.

The grants are for hardware at public libraries that serve areas with high concentrations of poverty, where technology is likely outdated…
