Elko — in the eastern part of the county near U.S. Route 60 and Interstate 295 — opened with 854 students and relieves the overcrowding at Fairfield and Rolfe middle schools.

Colonial Trail, off Pouncey Tract Road in western Henrico, opened with 490 students and helps with the crowding at Twin Hickory and River’s Edge elementary schools.
