Per the P-I, truancy was among the concerns addressed at last night’s school board meeting (current attendance rate = 78% at the secondary level). The article notes that perhaps the schools should “rekindle” its relationship with police: “at one point in time if officers saw school-aged children out during the day, they would question them to determine whether or not they were skipping school. If they were, police would take them back.” Why stop there? Why not also get the community at large involved? Who do we call to report possibly truancy cases?
