1) Poetic Justice

Lyric Ave is best described as a combination of the shows “Def Poetry,” “In Living Color” and “Showtime at the Apollo.” Lyric Ave blends spoken word poetry, music, skits and stand-up comedy into one of the best live shows in the area. Not shying away from issues of race, religion, politics and natural disasters has empowered this troupe of performers to express what is on the minds of many of today’s Americans.  These artists offer their unique views of current issues, injecting comedy, music and poetry into the multicultural mix to give an honest picture of life as an American in 2008. “Poetic Justice,” a performance created specifically for Sycamore Rouge, promises to be a powerful, provocative live show. Tickets are $15.

2) QuintEssential Jazz

QuintEssential Jazz, which is actually a six-piece jazz band, promises to “uplift its audiences emotionally and mentally” through their live performance at Sycamore Rouge this Saturday. Driven to improve the state of current mainstream music, QuintEssential’s message -through their music- is that of love, acceptance, and the enjoyment of jazz. QuintEssential Jazz is an alliance of outstanding local musicians who all share a love for quality music. The genres in which they perform consist of traditional and contemporary jazz, R&B, funk, neo-soul, and Christian/gospel instrumental music. Tickets $15.
