The Urban Tavern opens in former home of Shackleford’s Raw Bar
Sports bar owner Garland Taylor tries his hand at an upscale gastropub in the Far West End.
Sports bar owner Garland Taylor is taking a swing at something new with a new restaurant in the Gleneagles shopping center. Taylor, owner of three Home Team Grill locations, opened The Urban Tavern in the space formerly occupied by longtime West End restaurant and raw bar Shackleford’s this week. Shackleford’s closed its doors in 2012 after a 19 year run.
The Urban Tavern is described as a gastropub offering approachable American cuisine. Taylor hired Tim Bereika, formerly with Mosaic Catering and Secco Wine Bar in Carytown, as executive chef.
Appetizers range from $12-14 and entrees come in around the mid-$20s.
The Tavern has 20 rotating craft beers on tap as well as an extensive cocktail program and is open for dinner every evening beginning at 4:00 PM.
