The kolaches are coming

Sad to see you leave Church Hill, Chocolates by Kelly. But good to see you on board, Craft Kolache!

As the saying goes, when one door closes, it shortly thereafter opens up as a bakery in Church Hill. At least, I think that’s the saying.

The former Chocolates By Kelly space at 600 N. 29th Street has already found a new tenant after closing less than a week ago. Craft Kolache, owned and operated by Heather Horak, will use the space as a production kitchen, eventually making hundreds of kolaches a week for her Saturday appearances at the South of the James Market, starting in June.

As soon as Craft Kolache completes the inspection process, Horak says, she’ll begin taking private orders. Horak was awarded $5000 in SEED grant funds from Virginia LISC but is still waiting on those funds to become available. In the meantime, new next door neighbor Christine Greenberg of Urban Set Bride has created a GoFundMe campaign to help Horak with the costs of moving into and upfitting the space.
