Speaking of Cous Cous (and Fight the Big Bull, and Matt White), the bimonthly Fight the Big Bull spot this summer is being given to some ensemble most able to continue the bar’s trend of non-traditional “bar music.” This is due to an intense summer tour of The Great White Jenkins (which shares White and Pinson Chanselle with the Big Bull). More details on Cous Cous’s summer line-up will be announced when it comes.

Jason Stein was in Richmond on Tuesday playing at the Camel with his bass clarinet-fronted trio of Jason Roebke bass, and Mike Pride on drums. The band slipped between bouncy melodies and bittersweet sound sculptures as we watched, learned, and wondered where in the hell that sound was coming from. Everybody thank Scott Burton for making it happen.
