State Police identify West End man killed in weekend crash

Authorities say speed may have been a factor in the fatal accident.

State Police investigators have released the identity of a man killed early Saturday morning when his vehicle veered off Interstate 64 and struck a tree. 24-year-old Alexander Harpine was taken to VCU Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The incident occurred near Parham Road around 1:30 AM, police tell WTVR-TV:

“The car continued back onto Interstate 64 overturning several times, ejecting the driver,” Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick wrote in an email. “A 2001 Toyota also traveling east was struck by the BMW as it entered back onto Interstate 64.”
