Spruce up the sidewalk with Tree Box Love and you might get some cash

Although there are prizes involved with this project the real reason is to make our environment a little bit nicer.

The picture above was taken near the corner of Lombardy and Main. This is a more extreme example of the condition of many of our local tree wells.

Page Bond Gallery and 3north Architects are doing there part to fix these eyesores with the Tree Box Love project.tree_box_love

The rules are pretty simple and the contest is open to all. Find a tree well and spruce it up however you see fit as long as you don’t damage any current resident tree or block the sidewalk. This also means don’t go digging like crazy and damaging any pre-existing root structure and using the right kind of mulch, natural double shredded hard wood or triple shredded hardwood, or pine bark (small size).

All the registration information is here but you should probably get planning and planting because the deadline for photographs of your hard work are due on noon on September 15th. The winner will be announced on September 16th and include the following categories:

  • $500 for Best Overall Tree Box
  • $400 for Most Sustainable Tree Box
  • $300 for Most Out of the Box Tree Box
  • $200 for Best Before and After Tree Box
  • $100 for Best Tree Box by a young person – Ages 13 and under

Tree Box Love has examples and resources available for your inspiration.
