After a shocking December that saw three bizarre killings in the days right before Christmas, the East End has not seen a homicide in 2012. Going this far into the new year without a killing has not happened since at least the late 90s, and more likely the early 1960s or before.

At the end of 2009 and into January 2010, the East End went almost 6 months without a killing.

In 1994, the city’s worst year for killings, there were already 15 people killed in the East End through April 6 – more than we’ve seen in a single year since 2006.

In 2009, the East End’s best year for which information is available, there had been 3 killings by this dat.

The city has seen 7 murders so far in 2012, a rate which would be a historic low if it holds up.
