Short Pump Chili’s shutters amid major influx of new West End chains

Has the Far West End become oversaturated by national chains in recent years?

Chili’s at Short Pump Town Center has closed its doors after a decade long run, according to Richmond BizSense. The chain chose not to renew its 10-year lease on the property at 11720 West Broad Street.

The signage has already been removed from the building, a building that mall management says will quickly be leased by another party.

Though no official reason was given for the closure, one can surmise the high number of national brands in close proximity in recent years could very well have played into the decision.

In the past several years, a bevy of new chain restaurants has opened in close proximity to the mall, including Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Olive Garden, Chuy’s, and a host of others, making an already crowded restaurant scene–consisting of both national brands and local establishments–even more competitive.

Chili’s franchise company and mall management both gave some additional insight into the closure. Read more from Richmond BizSense here.
