Senior Advocate Seeking Subscribers To Telephone Reassurance Program

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Senior Advocate is seeking subscribers to a new service called the Telephone Reassurance Program. The program enables volunteers to make regular telephone calls to older adults and adults with disabilities who live alone. The goal is to check on the adults’ well-being and to provide them with some socialization. Potential subscribers can apply or be referred by a family member, friend or case worker. They will be interviewed before participating and will fill out a brief form listing information such as their languages spoken and interests or hobbies. This will allow them to be best matched with a volunteer caller. Volunteers are screened and undergo training before they can make calls. To subscribe to the Telephone Reassurance Program, or for more information, call (804) 768-7878 or e-mail leidheiserd@chesterfield.gov.
