On behalf of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Science Museum of Virginia is looking for Virginia’s next Outstanding Scientists. Nominees need to have a tie to Virginia either through birth, work or the effect of that work on Virginia.

Nominees for Virginia’s Outstanding Scientist should show a recent contribution to scientific research or a technological development. Nominations are also open for the Life Achievement in Science award. This award is not given on an annual basis, but at the discretion of the jurors.

Nominations must be received by the Science Museum of Virginia no later than close of business, Fri., Nov. 14.

Recipients receive their awards in February, 2009, at a Science Museum of Virginia breakfast followed by a trip to the General Assembly for recognition by the House of Delegates and Senate. They are also invited to the Kugel Ball gala in October of 2009.

Past winners have included experts in fields including DNA study, cancer research, nuclear physics and the space program.
