The other sponsors gracious enough to contribute to the event are Richmond Jazz Society, Ipanema, and RVANews. As Scott said in the forthcoming post, “In the wake of the RVAjazzfest, it’s great to see the interest and trust!” It is great. For local businesses and organizations like these three to monetarily support an event with which they may not be familiar is an act of faith that is significant to the growth of our jazz community. Their willingness to contribute excites me because behind enthusiastic organizations stand enthusiastic people–not only those who run each organization, but also everyone within earshot of their voice, like RJS supporters, RVANews readers, and Ipanema patrons. These are the type of eager people inclined to show up, support the musicians, and enjoy a unique brand of music while they have the chance to do so.

In the next post, you will see a thorough story chronicling Matana Roberts’s musical career and the conception behind her Coin Coin project. It is a rich and dramatic account that will hopefully lead to a greater understanding of Roberts and her music. I hope you will read it and keep checking back to RVAjazz for song samples in the coming weeks.
