RPD steps up Belle Isle patrols
Good news unless you’re drinking illegally or causing other problems.
Good news from Councilman Parker C. Agelasto:
Police Chief Alfred Durham and staff from the James River Park System have begun to respond to the numerous concerns about open containers and other illicit behavior in the park, particularly on Belle Isle.
Last weekend, RPD conducted additional patrols including 32 walking patrol hours and 12 bike patrol hours. This resulted in 8 open container misdemeanor violations, 29 parking tickets, and 116 citizen contacts. There were also 2 radio calls for disorderly conduct involving juveniles.
While RPD increases such patrols, it is incumbent on our citizens to call 911 to report suspicious and illegal activity.

This is great news, but do they seriously want us calling 911 when we see people drinking beer at Belle Isle?
No. Karen, they don’t. Call 911 when you have an emergency. Use your brain, then use your phone if your brain says “emergency”.
I’ll ignore the tone and merely point out that the Councilman’s FB post instructs “While RPD increases such patrols, it is incumbent on our citizens to call 911 to report suspicious and illegal activity.” I don’t see the word “emergency” in there. I don’t call 911 for all “suspicious and illegal activity”. Seems like a poor choice of words.
I bike through Belle Isle throughout the year once or twice a week as part of a loop I do. The amount of riff raft I see down there has increased each spring / summer during the past few years.
oh no not the riff raff!
