RPD steps up Belle Isle patrols

Good news unless you’re drinking illegally or causing other problems.

Good news from Councilman Parker C. Agelasto:

Police Chief Alfred Durham and staff from the James River Park System have begun to respond to the numerous concerns about open containers and other illicit behavior in the park, particularly on Belle Isle.

Last weekend, RPD conducted additional patrols including 32 walking patrol hours and 12 bike patrol hours. This resulted in 8 open container misdemeanor violations, 29 parking tickets, and 116 citizen contacts. There were also 2 radio calls for disorderly conduct involving juveniles.

While RPD increases such patrols, it is incumbent on our citizens to call 911 to report suspicious and illegal activity.
