Richmond Kickers release 2016 schedule
Get ready for some football.
It’s hard to imagine soccer being played at City Stadium but the cleated ones are starting to get ready for a new season. The team opens up the regular season at home against the Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday, March 26th at 5:00 PM and the next home game is Saturday April 9th against the 2015 champs Rochester Rhinos.

“Our attendance at City Stadium has increased 50% over the last two seasons,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. “More and more people in the city are talking about the atmosphere and experiencing the entertainment the Kickers have to offer. Our goal is still to make Kickers games the number one sporting event in Richmond and to replicate the energy, enthusiasm, passion and electric atmosphere we are seeing in MLS and USL cities across the USA.”
Joining the Kickers in the 14-team Eastern Conference are expansion sides Bethlehem Steel FC, FC Cincinnati and Orlando City B, longtime rivals including Charleston Battery, Harrisburg City Islanders, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Rochester Rhinos and Wilmington Hammerheads, as well as Charlotte Independence, Louisville City FC, FC Montreal, New York Red Bulls II, and Toronto FC II. The Kickers will face each opponent twice, with additional games comprised of matchups against geographic rivals.
So far no dramatic changes in the Kickers line-up. The biggest loss so far is George Davis IV but key players Ryan Taylor (Goalkeeper) and Brian Ownby (Midfielder) will be back. The Red and Black have also added Lesotho National Team forward, Sunny Jane to help the get the ball in the net. There will be more announcements as we get closer to the start of the season.
