Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States, according to the American Cancer Society. Early detection is critical to improving survival odds.
In recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness month, Retreat Hospital invites the community to an Imaging Open House on Wed., Oct. 15, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
A scheduler will be available to book mammogram appointments. Imaging staff will also be on hand to answer questions. Refreshments will be provided.
Located on Retreat Hospital’s second floor, the Imaging Department offers digital mammography, which provides improved image quality for detecting abnormalities. The department also uses a MammoPad, a soft foam cushion that covers the cold surface of the mammogram machine to help ease discomfort women often feel during the compression part of the test.
Retreat Hospital, a campus of Henrico Doctor’s Hospital, is located in the city’s Historic Fan District. The city’s oldest hospital, Retreat is licensed for 227 beds and offers private room accommodations at no additional cost.
