Playing a rare morning game the VCU Rams defeated the Houston Cougars in its first game of three to be played in San Juan, Puerto Rico: VCU 73, Houston 72.

VCU’s freshman guard Joey Rodriguez hit two free throws with 10 seconds on the clock to provide the winning margin. The Rams scoring was paced by senior guard Jamal Shuler’s 20 points. Senior forward Michael Anderson scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

VCU (2-0) will face the winner of the Miami vs. Marist game tomorrow (Friday) at 1:30 p.m.
