Five different players scored in double figures as the VCU women’s basketball team topped the Terriers of Boston University, 76-65, to claim the VCU SportsCenter Holiday Classic Championship.

In the victory, junior standout Quanitra Hollingsworth logged her school-record breaking 31st career double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

The first half was a back and forth struggle before sophomore Kita Waller once again proved to be a spark off the bench, knocking down five straight points to ignite a 11-2 run that gave VCU a 22-13 advantage with 6:35 to play before halftime. Another three-pointer and a jumper from junior Radoslava Bachvarova pushed the Rams advantage to 27-15 with 3:37 left in the first half. Senior LaKea Jones gave the Rams their biggest lead at 14 as she drilled a jumper from beyond the arc to send VCU to the intermission with a 34-20 cushion.

Hollingsworth led the way with 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Waller chipped in 13 points off the bench. Vaughn finished with 12 points, while Bachvarova and sophomore La’Tavia Rorie finished with 11 points each.

The Rams (10-1) are on the road on Sun., Jan. 6, as they travel north to take on the Huskies of Northeastern University in both team’s CAA opener. Game time in Boston, Mass. is set for 2 p.m.
