Police Urge Residents To Remove Valuables And Lock Vehicles
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Police Department’s Crime Prevention Section is reminding residents to take preventive measures against theft. Police have investigated 233 reports in which items were stolen from victims’ vehicles from Jan. 1- Feb. 24. These thefts occurred at businesses and homes throughout the county. Nine victims discovered their vehicle windows had been smashed to gain entry to locked vehicles in parking lots at T.G.I. Friday’s in the 13100 block of Rittenhouse Drive and Buffalo Wild Wings in the 12000 block of Southshore Pointe Drive between 10-11:30 p.m. on Feb. 12. Stolen items included laptops, cash, iPods, clothing, pool cues and a backpack. Most residential victims left their vehicles unlocked in their driveways or in front of their homes. Police said any and all items left in unlocked vehicles become easy prey whether victims are running errands, shopping, having dinner at area restaurants or at home. To avoid becoming a victim: Remove all visible valuables from your vehicle. This includes portable navigation devices, stereo equipment, satellite radios, wallets, purses, cell phones, cash and clothing.
