Police to distribute 65 turkeys to local families

The Petersburg Bureau of Police will be giving over 65 turkeys away on November 25, 2008 starting with a brief gathering at 11:00 a.m. at police headquarters located at 37 E. Tabb Street.

The following businesses have donated turkeys to the police for distribution: Bristow’s Market 1105 W. Washington St. (6 birds), Save-A-Lot 2003 S. Crater Rd (30 birds), Harrison’s Grocery 1900 W. Washington St. (10 birds) and RMM Enterprise Chester, VA (20 birds). City officials and Police Officers have volunteered to deliver the turkeys to deserving families in time for Thanksgiving on the above date and time.

The following departments have submitted names of deserving families:
Petersburg Housing and Redevelopment- 20 names
Social Services- 20 names
Weed and Seed- 5 names
Commonwealth Attorney- 5 names
Mayors Office-6 names
Police-10 names

Chief John I. Dixon, III. said, “This year is particularly hard economically for many families. We are fortunate to work in collaboration with area businesses and other agencies to make the holidays brighter for all.”
