Police arrest driver accused of leaving scene of major Monday morning accident

The driver allegedly struck two utility poles and caused the roadway to be closed for over 12 hours on Monday.

Henrico Police have arrested a suspect accused of leaving the scene of an accident Monday evening.

Just before 2:00 AM on Monday, October 28th, officers responded to the intersection of Staples Mill Road and Talley Road for reports of a motor vehicle accident. According to police, a 2006 Honda Pilot was travelling westbound on Staples Mill Road when it veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole. The contact caused a second pole, on the south side of Stapes Mill Road, to fall into eastbound lanes.

Two vehicles traveling eastbound struck the debris in the roadway.  The driver of the Honda Pilot fled before officers arrived on scene.

The investigation revealed that Demos Harrison Moore, age 25, of the 7000 block of Vernon Road, was the operator of the Honda Pilot. Moore was arrested and charged with hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license on Wednesday morning, police announced.

Repairs to utility poles caused Staples Mill to be closed for more than 12 hours on Monday.
