The siege of Petersburg began in June, 1864 with Union troops attempting to surround the City in order to cut off supply lines the Capitol of the Confederacy, Richmond, so desperately needed. Confederate troops made valiant efforts to hold on to Petersburg, but almost ten months and a combined 70,000 casualties later, the Southern soldiers were overwhelmed and had to retreat. General Lee would be forced to surrender on April 9, 1865 only seven days after the fall of Petersburg.

The tours will focus on the area known as the Eastern Front Unit of Petersburg National Battlefield.
