R.E. Lee Elementary School in Petersburg kept its full SOL accreditation for another year and the school’s friends at nearby Fort Lee, which include Petersburg School Board member Dr. Kenneth Lewis, kept their promise, too. In November, they provided pizza for all the students at the school, as they had said they would if the school was successful with SOL accreditation.

“There are many people in the Tri-Cities Community, including the Fort Lee Community, who want to celebrate successes, especially the academic successes, of the Petersburg City Public Schools (PCPS). They want to support the PCPS in ways that will encourage the students to understand and appreciate that their ‘8 to 5 job’ is to acquire knowledge, demonstrate knowledge, help create knowledge and to use their knowledge for the benefit and improvement of all mankind,” Dr. Lewis said.

“My Fort Lee colleagues suggested that we recognize Robert E. Lee Elementary School, its students, leadership, faculty and staff, for their SOL and AYP accomplishment. We look forward to recognizing and celebrating the SOL and AYP achievements in the remaining schools of the PCPS, as well as all local school systems,” Dr. Lewis added.
