Noted TED presenter Dan Pallotta to speak at U of R November 18th

Pallotta is known for his talk focusing on non-profits, “Overhead, Overblown…Over It.”

Noted TED speaker Dan Pallotta will be speaking at Camp Concert Hall on the University of Richmond campus on November 18th, the university has announced.

Pallotta, known for his popular Ted Talk, will be delivering his presentation, “Overhead, Overblown…Over It,” addressing a primary reason many nonprofits are doomed for failure which he calls the “Starvation Cycle”–a vicious cycle that serves to undermine nonprofit organizations’ effectiveness and stability.

Following his presentation, there will be a panel discussion with Christy Coleman, Co-CEO of The American Civil War Center; Heidi Crapol, VP Community Relations, Genworth Financial; Darcy S. Oman, President and CEO, The Community Foundation Serving Richmond & Central Virginia; Bunkie Righter, Sr. Director, Business Development, Guidestar; and Kirk Tattersal, Managing Director of Operations & Marketing, 1607 Capital Partners. The panel will be moderated by Reggie Gordon, CEO of the American Red Cross, Richmond Chapter.

“Dan Pallotta is disrupting everything we thought we knew about charity and the management of nonprofit organizations, and as a result, he has become the tip of the spear in propelling a widespread transformation of the nonprofit community,” said Kathy Laing, director of UR’s Institute on Philanthropy. “His message is sure to have great resonance here in Central Virginia, and the subsequent panel discussion will tackle how his insights apply to Richmond’s nonprofit community. We are absolutely thrilled to bring him to Richmond.”

Tickets to the event are $25 and include a copy of Pallotta’s book “Uncharitable.” Doors open at 8:00 AM, with the panel concluding at 11:00 AM.
