North Richmond Neighborhood Road Condition Crowdsourcing

Tell us about your roads.

The Richmond Snow Plowing Status Map is wonderful in theory. In reality it doesn’t seem to be accurate. I find it hard to believe that not a single route has been completed as shown above.

So let’s find out what’s going on out there and help each other out.

What streets do you know are plowed or treated? I can tell you that that my streets are still a mess and haven’t seen a plow or sand truck. That’s not entirely true a plow drove down our street but didn’t put his plow down so wasn’t very helpful.

In the comments tell us which roads are good to go and if you feel like it vent about the roads that are still snowed in.

Only plow I’ve seen near Battery Park was on its way somewhere else. Got stuck on our road for an hour and the neighbors had to dig him out.

Bellevue ~ MacArthur Avenue, streets are awful. Have not been touch, but can’t even get out of parking lot (private -apts), to get onto slippery streets, any way. Usually, this is the case, can’t get over to the main streets, that are cleared. Sometimes, a few small lines of salt are seen on Bellevue, but can’t even get to that!

Brooklyn Park blvd and Chamberlayne are totally clear, but all the side streets are fucked. Every time I leave the house I see cars getting stuck trying to make it a block or so to or from the main roads.

I have been driving around town – Fan and West End – a lot since Sunday and it doesn’t look like the condition of the side roads anywhere has changed much since Sunday ….no plowing , no sand or salt. Seems like once the main roads are plowed most of the workers go home. Very different than the Henrico county website which says…
“Once we have achieved bare pavement on our Priority 1 roads we move our resources into subdivisions, if we determine they are un-passable. At this point we sometimes find the packed snow/ice has stubbornly bonded to the pavement making it very difficult to achieve bare pavement in subdivisions. When faced with snow/ice packed on the pavement for multiple days, we achieve passable conditions by plowing (sometimes just one pass per lane) and spreading sand on inclines and curves in order to improve traction on the slippery surfaces. Passable means that a road can be traveled with caution” Seems like they have really dropped the ball.

Per City Code, Sec. 90-42, you must clear the snow on sidewalks adjacent to your property within 6 hours of snow stopping or by 11:00 a.m. the next day if snow continues to fall through the night. City code holds property owners and occupants responsible for doing so.” Are they kidding? I can’t even get to my business because the roads are untreated and I can’t even get out of my neighborhood.

Brook Road is in good shape at this point, but don’t even try to get through the side streets without a 4×4. Westwood west of the Hermitage/Boulevard intersection is finally alright, but not because of plowing, because so many people have driven on it. Good luck, folks!

  7. I’m on Brookland Parkway and while that is clear, none of the neighborhood streets in Sherwood Park have been touched! I’m looking forward to watching the trash truck try and get through the alleys this week!
