No BS! Brass will be performing on Friday night at The Camel. Joining them will be the one-man-band Gull. Reggie Pace describes him as playing “guitar, sings and plays the drums AT THE SAME TIME! AWESOME!!!! You need to see this to believe it! Awesome.” The performance will also feature dancer Rachel Warren.
When asked what inspired the band to include a dancer, Pace replied,
It just seemed like a natural progression. We’ve done things before with dancers, puppeteers, singers and painters.
I just love mixing medias (a local painter did our album art). We are about to shoot a short film/music video with a local director for my “Ballad of the Eagle” (so stoked!!)
More specifically ….music and dance in many cultures can not be separated….we try to carry on to that tradition. Coming up with rhythmically and harmonically interesting stuff that still grooves/dances is one of my underlying goal as a writer. My other big thing as a writer is visualization. I want you to see something…a scene from a kung-fu movie or a cartoon or a European drama…whatever the listener wants. A great dancer embodies all of those things. Literally….showing you the notes and the silences that are in the air. And…displaying the emotions and pulse of a song.
ABOUT RACHEL WARREN
Rachel C. Warren, was born on the west coast, raised in the south, and is now living and working in the north. In 2008 she received her BFA in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University. Upon graduation, she journeyed to Europe to make dance with artists in film and theater. Tired and homesick, she moved to Brooklyn, NY to continue her career as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer. She currently provides care and education to children throughout the city and is a founding member of Courtney Cooke and the Booster Club, a Brooklyn based female duo with a goal to present work in non-conventional places through movement, text, media, and musical collaboration. This is her first performance with NO BS! Brass and definitely not the last.
