New Site Aims To Teach Teens About Healthy Relationships

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Domestic Violence Task Force has launched a Web site to help teens learn about healthy relationships and how to recognize the signs of a potentially abusive partner. Relate2You.com is an interactive site that uses quizzes, comics and casual language to reach out to adolescents, whether they are in a relationship or contemplating one in the future. The site was developed with funds from a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grant. “A lot of kids think of abuse only as physical abuse, but they don’t really consider sexual harassment or mental or emotional abuse,” said Robin Jones, a prevention specialist with Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services. Jones wrote the content for Relate2You.com using concepts from established curriculums on safe dating and relationships. The site offers tips on how to make healthy decisions and how to communicate assertively with others. Links to community resources and help also are included. For more information about Relate2You.com, call Jones at (804) 717-6450.
