The Richmond School Board, the majority of which are newly elected, will be holding their first meeting of 2013 on Monday at 7PM at City Hall.
A message from the new 1st District School Board Representative Glen Sturtevant:
Dear Friends & Neighbors,
I’m excited to get to work as your school board representative in the 1st District. I was just sworn in on Thursday and our first meeting is this Monday. I look forward to working with you to continue improving our schools and building on our successes. Here are some important updates:
Upcoming School Board Meetings: January 7th: Working Group Meeting at 4:30 pm, Formal Board Meeting at 7 pm (both at City Hall). January 22nd: Working Group Meeting at 4:30 pm, Formal Board Meeting at 7 pm. Meeting agendas are posted here: web.richmond.k12.va.us/Administration/SchoolBoard/SchoolBoardDocuments.aspx.
District Event: February 2nd: 1st District Budget Town Hall Meeting, 10 am – noon at the West End Library. I will share the superintendent’s draft budget with you and would like to hear your input on budget priorities. RSVP to me at glen.sturtevant@gmail.com.
Mary Munford Elementary: Mary Munford Elementary School will hold a parent information session on January 23 at 9:30 am. This is for parents living in the Mary Munford School zone and for those interested in attending Munford through open enrollment. Tours will be conducted by some of the Munford 5th grade students. There will also be an opportunity to talk with parents of children currently attending Munford.
Albert Hill Middle: Please keep in mind the due dates for eighth graders to turn in the following specialty high school applications: Richmond Community High, January 11th; Franklin Military, January 30th, and Open High, February 11th. Additionally, Career Cruising testing is coming up on January 15th, 16th, and 22nd for seventh grade students. This testing will be administered in their history classes. Finally, all students should turn in the Tiger Rules Pledge that was sent home prior to winter break. Please see Mrs. McClendon if you have any questions about any of these matters.
Open Enrollment: If you have a child currently enrolled via open enrollment, you need to fill out an Intent to Return form by January 31st. If you are interested in applying to a school via open enrollment, the application must be submitted between 2/1-2/15.
