Today’s P-I reports on Mayfield’s press conference yesterday morning. Among other things, she says the schools are illegally busing in students from other jurisdictions (PPS’ Public Info. Officer replies), that her business [Alzena’s] is the only black-owned business left on N. Sycamore St., that every building up to her own has been bought, that folks want to turn N. Sycamore into a residential area and not commercial, that folks want her removed from her position in the NAACP, etc. The article quotes that in a letter to Rev. Al Sharpton, Mayfield writes: “‘as white gentrification proceeds to take Petersburg from majority black to majority white, we need your assistance.’”
