From the Museum District Association

The Museum District Association and Richmond Tree Stewards will help organize and conduct a neighborhood tree pruning project as an initial prototype to limb up and low prune city street trees, removing hazards to parked cars and pedestrians on adjacent side walks.

We will prune street trees along Stuart, Hanover, Grove, Floyd and Elwood Avenues between the Boulevard and Thompson Street.

WHEN: Saturday, February 9 at 8:30 AM. If it rains, the project is canceled for the day and will be rescheduled.

WHERE: Benedictine High School parking lot at 300 N. Belmont Ave.

Equipment: Please bring gloves, pruning saws and shears. The city will provide reflective vests and some additional tools. There will be a dump truck for limb removal and there also may be a chipper provided by and operated by C.S. Flournoy – a tree maintenance company.

Instructions: City arborists will provide hands-on demonstrations of proper pruning techniques before the volunteers start their work. With ten volunteers, it is estimated that it will take about an hour and a half to complete the project.

Evaluation: The city arborists will evaluate the effectiveness of this prototype project, so that any needed changes can be incorporated into future Tree Steward tree pruning projects in other areas of the city. Participating Tree Stewards will gain experience in how to initiate their own projects.
