More than 1,000 people show up for Jimmy Carter book signing

The former president stopped by the West End Costco to sign copies of his new book.

From the Richmond Times-Dispatch:

Johnny Kaufman’s meeting with former President Jimmy Carter had been a long time coming.

The Navy veteran from Earlysville in Albemarle County served with Carter for most of 1946 and 1947 on the U.S.S. Wyoming, also known as the Chesapeake Rider, when the gunnery ship was based in Norfolk.

“We were shipmates, but there is nothing that I would remember him for after all this time. I’d like to know what he looks like now,” Kaufman said Saturday, just before he saw Carter for the first time in decades.
