Richmond Mayor Doug Wilder’s website has an overview of progress made in the Battery Park community in advance of Tuesday’s Battery Park Civic Association meeting:

Baseball and Football Fields: Recent rains mean the city needs additional time to dry the infield so crews can create a usable practice space for the rest of the summer. A contractor is scheduled to repair ruts and remove debris in the football field.

Battery Park – Main Section: Asphalt will soon be removed from the five tennis courts damaged in the 2006 flooding. Courts will be repaved, and new posts and nets installed. The basketball court is being relocated where two tennis courts were just south of Overbrook Road. The restroom has been gutted ad is being rebuilt. New playground equipment has been ordered and will be installed. The asphalt pad and benches adjacent to the playground will be replaced. This work is planned for a mid to late summer completion barring any severe weather or other unknown set backs.

First Tee: The agreement to re-open First Tee Golf Course is in the signature stage and a “soft” opening could occur this week. A larger, more formal grand re-opening will take place later in May or early June.
