This afternoon, VCU’s nifty pair of guards, junior Eric Maynor and senior Jamal Shuler, sank seven treys in the first half on arch-rival ODU, to dampen the spirits of a sold-out crowd at the Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk.
Maynor and Shuler finished the game with 26 points apiece in leading the running Rams to a 78-68 victory over the stunned Monarchs.
While he was at it, Shuler grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds, dished out three assists and got three steals. No to be outdone, Maynor had a season-high 10 assists with just two turnovers; he also got six boards. During the halftime break the two sold popcorn to the fans, refilled the gas tank and rotated the tires of the VCU team bus.
The next challenge for VCU (13-4, 6-1 in CAA) has them on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Hofstra (4-12, 2-5 in CAA), at 7 p.m. (televised by MASN).
