Manchester is home to GRACRE Award winning Hopper Lofts
From tobacco to apartments an award winning building in Manchester.
Greater Richmond Commercial Real Estate (GRACRE) held their annual award ceremony to celebrate innovation and excellence in, you guessed it, commercial real estate. The awards ended up being spread throughout the city and Hopper Lofts brought one home for Hills and Heights. Full list of winners at the first link.
Best Multi-Family – Hopper Lofts
The historic building was created in 1921 and was acquired by Western Tablet & Stationary in 1927.
The location was on the corner of Everett & 7th Street. As the business prospered, a warehouse addition to the building was added 1932 on the corner of Commerce & Maury Street and another in 1939 that spanned the corner of Everett & Commerce adding offices to the business space. Philip Morris USA became the industrial owner and continued utilizing the building by adding a fourth section on 7th and Maury Streets. The Hopper Building now spans an entire city block.
The building was designed in four distinct phases culminating with phase four featuring three story units with skyline views of downtown from the floor to ceiling windows. In addition to remarkable views, the project features many elements of the building’s history from the railroad beds in the shown on the 1919-1952 Sanborn Map to tobacco hoppers on the roof to grated steel platforms.
