Man who fell overboard Carnival cruise ship identified as Deep Run grad

21-year-old Virginia Tech student Cameron Smook was traveling the Carnival Glory for Spring Break.

GREAT ABACO ISLAND, BAHAMAS (WWBT) -The man who fell off a cruise ship and remains missing was a graduate of Deep Run High School, according to his family.

Cameron Smook of Glen Allen is a senior majoring in mining and minerals engineering at Virginia Tech.

The US Coast Guard has suspended the search for Smook, who fell off the Carnival Glory near the Bahamas and was reported missing Sunday morning.

Smook was on Spring Break when he went overboard, as captured on camera footage, according to Carnival.

21-year-old Smook fell overboard this past weekend, as confirmed by Carnival, who released a statement Sunday. The company’s ‘CareTeam’ is providing support to his travel companions, and offered their deepest condolences to his family.
