The city’s 29th homicide of the year was reported early Wednesday morning, when a body was discovered in an alley on Harold Avenue near Overby-Sheppard Elementary School near Highland Park. The Times-Dispatch has more:

Freddie J. Sparrow, described as a doting father who had a way of making people laugh but also struggled with heroin addiction, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in a Richmond alley yesterday morning.

“He was loved around here by everyone,” said Veronica Cunningham, mother of Sparrow’s 4-year-old daughter. “Broke my heart.”

A woman found Sparrow, 47, lying in a gravel alley in the 2600 block of Harold Avenue, just north of Overby-Sheppard Elementary School in North Richmond, and called police about 7 a.m.
