As a business woman and leader, Maggie Lena Walker founded the St. Luke Penny Savings Bank in 1903 and became the first female bank president to charter a bank. Her home in Jackson Ward is a National Historic Site and operated by the National Park Service. For years, many in Richmond have voiced their opinion that the city needs a monument honoring Maggie Lena Walker.

Two meetings will be held in early April to discuss public art in Jackson Ward to honor Maggie L. Walker. The public is invited to attend and provide feedback. Both meetings will present the same material.
