Locally-based auto insurer moving into former Circuit City headquarters

Five-year-old direct-to-consumer insurance company has already outgrown its Innsbrook-area headquarters.

Glad Allen-based Elephant Insurance is growing. The auto insurer leased 54,549-square-feet of office space at 9950 Mayland Drive, the former headquarters of now-defunct Circuit City and current home of Allianz Global Assistance.

Elephant has been in operations in Richmond for five years. The move will increase their space by almost 25,000-square-feet, allowing the company to nearly double their workforce in the next few years–to over 600 people.

Building amenities include a fitness facility, café, coffee shop, meeting space, and back-up power infrastructure.

“Our business growth has been strong the past few years, and we expect that to continue,” said Tim MacAleese, Chief Financial Officer of Elephant Insurance. “Our growth means lots of new jobs in the Richmond area—as our customer base continues to grow, so does our need for talented employees.”

Elephant plans to move into the new space in early December 2014 and be fully operational by February 2015.

As a direct-to-consumer auto insurance company, Elephant began operations in the Innsbrook area with approximately 40 people in 2009. Today, the company employs over 350 workers locally.
