Local photographer uses drone to give unique perspective on Tacky Lights Tour home

Photographer Daryl Watkins gives fans a bird’s eye view of the 170,000-light holiday display.

Most of us are familiar with the brilliant lights and fun surrounding homes on Richmond’s Tacky Lights Tour, but one local photographer aims to give fans an entirely new perspective on the holiday cheer.

Daryl Watkins used a drone to get a bird’s eye view of one of the most popular homes on the tour, a home on Wendhurst Drive in Glen Allen.

The home, owned by Al and Esther Thompson, has been lit up with Christmas cheer for the past 16 years and draws a crowd of onlookers each and every night.

The display features over 170,000 lights and has been featured on TLC’s Crazy Christmas LightsCBS News Sunday MorningNBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, and on NPR.
