June 2014 First Fridays
Lots of new art is on display during the month of June. Here is a listing of what will be showing at some of the galleries this month.
Lots of new art is on display during the month of June. Take a peek at what is out there during First Fridays. Head off of Broad Street to see a new neighborhood mural unveiling at 6:45 PM at the corner of 2nd and Clay streets. James River High School will be holding their graduation ceremony at the Siegel Center at 7:00 PM so expect a bit of traffic congestion near Belvidere and Broad streets this evening.
Here is a listing of what will be showing at some of the galleries during June.
- MEDIUM CRASH features works by Harrison Haynes.
1708 Gallery at the Linden Row Inn
- Final month to view ReMap. This exhibition was born at the RVA Street Art Festival last year, while watching Studio Two Three‘s steam roller press the plate that created the wall sized tapestry map of Richmond that is currently on view in the dining room. Traditionally, when considering a map, the paper (or plane) represents the surface of the earth. The artists exhibiting in ReMap demonstrate that surface and plan are opportunities to choose a different path in which to document their journey.
- Hamburger Head featuring work by Richmond artist Chris Norris, will continue through mid-June.
- little BIG is a selection of artwork from The Really Big Show. Selected pieces will highlight projects from ART 180’s recent 12-week spring programs that explore positive self-expression, identity, and teamwork.
- Habitation by Pamela Pecchio uses photography to recognize both the poetry and the mundanity of our everyday surroundings.
- Coinciding with Habitation, six gallery artists are also on view: Louis Draper, S. Gayle Stevens, Greta Pratt, Alyssa Salomon, Courtney Johnson and Julio Mitchel.
- Out of the Dust of the Ground by Priyah Bhagat features mixed media dolls and doll-influenced figures created from found objects.
- Skymall features new works from Andrew Brehm, Luke Harman, Nicholas Crider, and Spencer Erickson
- Music from Navi, Diamond Hairbrush, and PT Burnem
Gallery:EDIT at Hillside Missions
- Audacity features works byBen Winans, Ginny Rush, Cassandra Collins, Corrin Brewer, Seth Remsnyder, and April Sage.
- Artists will also be creating artwork throughout the evening.
- Premonitions features abstract work by Richmond artist Chet Naylor.
- Sculpture, mixed media, and 3D works will be on exhibit.
- Artwork by Willie Porter, Jr. will be on display and “The Love 360 Project.”
- The Treasure Hunt by Amelia Blair Langford features a series of illustrations in this solo show. Prints and tees will be on sale.

- Main Gallery – A Measure of Grace by Elizabeth Kendall

Richmond City Public Library – Main Branch
- In the Gellman Room – Landscapes and Cityscapes – bold impressions of creation, oil paintings by Richmond artist and Virginia native Miles Morin
- In the Dooley Foyer – 2013 Virginia Vistas Photo Contest winners from Scenic Virginia
- In Dooley Hall – Summer Reading Inspirations – an exhibit featuring favorite books of Richmond community leaders as young readers
- The library’s permanent collections include works by David Freed, Helen & Alvin Hattorf, and Anne Newbold Perkins.
- Yo Guatemala features photography by Anne Hart Chay.
- Choices features pastels by G.E. Hayob
- Musical performance by Elana Lisa
