Many of you wrote in asking what was being built at the site of the old Commonwealth Kennel on Pouncey Tract Road, just across from Short Pump Middle School. With all of the development going on in the area, it’s usually safe to assume a new neighborhood or shopping center is being planned when a stand of trees is cleared. Surprisingly, that’s not the case at this point in time. Richmond.com ran a story a few weeks back as a part of their weekly “Why Richmond, Why?!?” series that included information about the property.

According to Henrico County’s Director of Planning, Joe Emerson, Jr., acreage that was cleared was done so under a logging permit from the Virginia Department of Forestry. Because the property is zoned A-1 (Agricultural District), timbering is permitted. Although plans were previously submitted for a proposed townhouse development on the property, the project fell through and there are currently no plans on the table to develop the land.
