“Our city is so full of great talent,” says Paul Blacker, President and Co-Owner of Infuzion, “and I feel lucky enough to offer them a nice venue to showcase their musical skills.”
Infuzion is split into two halves: a club and a bistro. While the clientele may be different for the two sections, music is central in both parts of the building. “I wanted to make sure that from the time folks stepped into Infuzion’s Bistro until they left…they could hear live music,” comments Blacker. And as for the performers, “All that have played here so far really like the space and the fact that it is non-smoking.”
A hallway runs through the center of the lounge with a bar and nook on one side, and a larger lounge with a small but sufficient performance area for the musicians. But no matter which room in the lounge you are in, the music has a strong presence. There is a romantic quality to the place because of the dim lighting, candles, and elegant decorations, but the layout also welcomes friendly get-togethers or casual business meetings. If unaccompanied, however, one might feel awkward trying to sit down and enjoy the music, as he or she would be able to do in a typical bar.
Infuzion has the vibe of a bar and restaurant, but not so much of a performance venue. So it seems to be unique among Richmond restaurants by booking up to three performing groups on weekend nights, two on weeknights. Blacker understands the appeal of live music. He knows that whether his patrons are people coming to see top-notch musicians or people who just enjoy the ambiance of live jazz on a date, there is a drawing force of live music.
Tuesdays and Wednesdays were intended on being the only all-age nights; but an hour after meeting with Blacker, issues caused the staff to revise that policy to being ages 21+ every night. While Blacker would love for all people to visit Infuzion to enjoy the music, “it is not in our best interest,” he states, “to allow under 21 in.”
