Today’s P-I has an article called “Police to crack down on truancy”. In this article, Police Chief Dixon is quoted as saying that truancy is “the first step to unemployment and possibly even incarceration,” and “It’s not my job to arrest young people. If we’ve arrested them, someone, somewhere along the line, we’ve failed them.” — Coming from this perspective, Dixon has proposed a comprehensive plan to address truancy, a plan that not only provides a combo of carrots and sticks designed to incentivize youth to attend school, but also examines the root causes for truancy and addresses parent responsibility.
